Here is the second everyday dress pattern I made last week.
I LOVE how it turned out, and so does Emily.
When she saw it, her whole face lit up. So fun.
I wish I could say that I designed it, but no, it is a knockoff of this dress from JCrew.
It was really fun and simple to sew, too.
....AND GUESS WHAT?
After researching for hours and hours (I don't have PhotoShop CS5), I finally figured out how to create a digital pattern PDF download for you!
It is only in size 5, but it would probably fit a 4 year old too.
With just minor adjustments, you could make it work for a 3 or 6-7 year old. It is a shorter dress, made to go with leggings, so feel free to add some length to the hem if you choose.
Here is my pattern! (Scribd) or here (Google Docs)
(This is a proud moment for me...I feel so professional!)
:)
Want to make one?
About a yard of wide knit fabric
interfacing for bow
1/4" elastic for waist
optional: elastic trim or binding knit
1. Print out pattern. Piece together matching lines. Here is the pattern map. (Scribd) or here (Google Docs)
2. Cut out your pattern pieces.
3. Get started:

That is just gorgeous!!! So Summery sweet. Let me know if you ever enlarge it to an adult size ;)

ReplyDeleteI am definitely going to make this. I have the perfect fabric!

ReplyDeleteThis is really cute!
ReplyDeleteDo you mind sharing where in LA you found it? I'm going to be in town next weekend & would love to find a good shop to browse. Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteIf you give me your email address and or send me an email, I will forward you a map and guide to all of my favorite places downtown.
DeleteCan you please forward me a map and guide to all your favorite places downtown? I'd love to get some great knit to work with. angelafisk(at)gmail(dot)com
DeleteReally cute dress, thank you for the pattern. I live in central California, and will be going to LA in a few weeks do you mind forwarding to me a guide to your favorite places downtown. I have only been there once and would love to go fabric shopping. My email is ksicairos@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteThis is such a cute dress! I have a five year old, so the pattern is perfecto!!! Do you think a cotton frabric would work as well as a knit? I have some frabric that I'd love to use if possible. Thanks, can't wait to start this one!
ReplyDeleteIf you use a woven fabric, you would need some type of closure, in the neckline...like buttons or a zipper...
DeleteGotcha - thanks so much!
DeleteI love your stuff!!! I found some gray and white striped knit and have made the this stripe relay dress for my 7 year old (with some trial and error alterations to size 7) , the boxy pleat dress for my 3 year old and a half circle skirt for myself inspired by your layer cake skirt tutorial!!! Love love your stuff!!!
ReplyDeleteLeanne Siverhus
WOW-What a wonderful compliment! Thanks, Leanne. I would love to see a picture of your stuff...if you ever get a chance!
DeleteThank you for the pattern. I"m getting back into sewing after a 15 year hiatus and I thought this would be a great pattern to start with. I do have one question though - it looks like you used a serger machine for all the stitches? With knits will a regular machine work just as well?
ReplyDeleteYes, the best stitch is a very narrow zig zag stitch. I usually do a longer stitch (3-4) and a .5 zig zag width.
DeleteI just found your site - it is amazing! Thanks so much for this tutorial... I just made a little tunic for my daughter by upcycling an old top of mine and following your tutorial. She's only 17 months old so I made my own pattern though... if you feel like checking it out it's here : http://mendandmakenew.blogspot.co.nz/2012/04/kcwc-womans-top-to-babys-tunic-day-6.html
ReplyDeleteThanks again - and I can't wait to try out lots of your other tutorials!
